Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots that vacuum and mop also have the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors They are also adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and can be used while you are at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and automatic vacuum and mop combo uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxes This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic hoovers mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and look better. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's more expensive and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to organize the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. And you can set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
