It's still a great option for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum with mop vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3
