The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work, or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and autonomous vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.

It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
