Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great deal for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work, or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance automatic vacuum and mop and mop uses sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models, this mop and robot cleaner vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite a noisy unit, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and look better. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's more expensive and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot cleaner with mop vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance.
