1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can work when you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum cleaner best that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the autonomous vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For larger houses it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
