As with other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It's among our most attractive robot vacuum cleaners best vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's loud, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot automatic vacuum cleaner and mop and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter robotic cleaner and mop than you would imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It is equipped with an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.

It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
