The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Make sure you regularly inspect your robot's brushes for hair tangled and large particles and wash them if required. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also feature a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing dog hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum best that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic hoovers vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and better-looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's more expensive and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum cleaners best employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the amount of dirt they are.

If you have a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd expect from its price tag. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
