Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.
It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of bare floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, however it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum cleaner reviews that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas are.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. Additionally a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto vacuum and mop-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app also grants access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
