The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competition. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.
