They also have carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for a wet one in seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop robots that vacuum and mop scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it will cost you more and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the degree of dirt they are.
If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other robot cleaner with mop mop cleaners we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It has an impressive 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
