However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.
Still, it's very good robot vacuum to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you need to, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. 3. iRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and a little more cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger houses it's worth looking for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. Finally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would think from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean the area.
