Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can raise an item's Mark level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all its leveled up perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to the lower levels). Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.

The level of an item can help players compare the potency of gear when choosing to buy or sell. It's an indicator of the item's condition and its quality. The item level upgrade level can also be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a vendor.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full description of the item, including its level. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are various theories on how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula that calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different worth, and also that sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The stat mods of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded one time and items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at more expensive costs.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to provide items with extra damage or special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to make them unique by putting a name on them.

Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button using the arrows that circle. This will cost a specific amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which of the available stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it is a unique item or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. But, like base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players a chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves and is thus more beneficial in the early game than later ones because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck, or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be bought from the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item if it fails.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%.

The luck of an item may influence the success of an upgrade. Each Best item upgrade has an average success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects could be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
