WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item Level Upgrade used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item upgrade from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to level up weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with an button, which displays a preview of the item at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via various methods that are both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to the same level will cost less, even if they are part of a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

First, you should know that the crests can only be purchased for gear with a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade item paths. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade item steps and pathways.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one usage, so it's important to use them wisely. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with high-quality gear.
