Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a good deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its auto vacuum and mop has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.
If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Also, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
