However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuum that mops vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's going to cost you more and create more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum mop cleaner robot's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.
If you own a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Also, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

It also mops using a single pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that is washable.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
