9 Signs That You re The Robot Vac Expert
Top Rated Robot Vacuums
A robot vacuum can keep floors clean enough to decrease the frequency with which you need to manually vacuum. Choose a robot vacuum with good navigation, is able to clean corners and stairs, and that has large bins that only needs to be emptying every so often.
There are also models that clean and charge themselves, a feature that may be important for people with pets or kids. A lot of the top performers in our tests also offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.
1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO and its sibling, the i3 EVO are the same robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a good choice for people who want an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but don't mind taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin when it is full.
Both robots are good in removing dirt and dust particles on hard floors and carpets and can maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots we test the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities and therefore it could be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it may have trouble in navigating through transitions between surfaces like hardwood to rug.
iRobot recommends you clear out areas in which the i3+ EVO will best auto vacuum before you use it, including clearing out any toys or clutter it may come across. Also, keep the dustbin and filters clean to prevent them from getting blocked. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station and automatically empties the dirt into the station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning from where it left off. The battery's lifespan is around an hour and a half of constant use. It takes three hours to charge.
2. Roomba from iRobot
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. -- the most important feature of all -- it comes with self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that lets it identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot with voice or via the app.
In our testing the i7+ performed faster and more maneuverable than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin that removes major maintenance sources and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.
We were also impressed with the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to start or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to voice commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car in a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in many households, but it also fits perfectly next to a coffee table or on a bookshelf where you can wave it around like an enchanted tool.
The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that lasts for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system removes allergens, and then releases cleaner air back into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to collect large dust and crumbs. It comes with three suction settings to meet the task at hand. It is able to swiftly switch from handheld to floor vacuum, and vice versa.
The model comes with an attached dock that charges the Dyson to 100 percent within 3.5 hours. It also gives the ability to connect two attachments as well as a handheld. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The V10's main drawback is its short running time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is an average not an extraordinary run time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. This is enough time to clean the average-sized home, but not enough to reach every spot. (A second time is usually sufficient). This doesn't mean that this model isn't a good choice It's lighter and more agile than older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is noticeably better on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums, the 694 is an entry-level model that's an excellent option for those who don't want to spend too much money on a robot. It's capable of sucking up most debris types and sizes during our tests, and frequently goes over the same areas several times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach corners and edges of walls.
Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it's not equipped with the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top selections, the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It may get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot cleaner commercial is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694, as it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower cost of recurring costs, has more advanced automation abilities and is better able to move itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.
The elegant RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for a variety of purposes, because it has a longer battery life, the ability to change its suction power mode on its own, comes with physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels more sturdy and has a stronger motor, and is able to perform better on both bare floors and carpets with a low pile, as well as providing a greater variety of features for automation.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a brand is found on all kinds of home electronics So it's no surprise that they're one of the most popular mop and robot vacuum manufacturers. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app offers a variety of options to customize your robotic cleaner. This includes mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior modifications docking frequency settings and more. It's easy to understand and user-friendly, as is the case with other Samsung devices.
In our testing of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86 percent of it. It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items such as cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models we've tested and this could be a deterrent for some shoppers.
The app allows you to access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the best robot vacuum cleaner's area of cleaning. This feature lets you check in on pets or kids when you're away from home. The filter and dustbin are washable to make cleanup quick and easy. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean and tidy station that's self-emptying to keep the robot's trash bin clean and optimizes its suction power for each cleaning run.

The app also makes it simple to steer the robot manually in the event of need. My living room rug, for example is darkly colored that can trip up some other robots. However the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border without registering it as an incline. The ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
