1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in seconds.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and look better. If you're willing with a little more noise and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
