The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also gives access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
