How to Replace an replacement audi key fob G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies to trigger the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails the ECU will show the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and could indicate chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different connector pins, and they have different functions but the best method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is at full operation. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ i get zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.
I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows temperatures of -49c. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.
I'm not certain what to do, as i think i've pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
