The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic cleaner and mop vacuums that we have examined. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and look better. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.
If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. And you can create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that mop vacuums that we've examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
