The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and leaves your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and can be used when you're at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different flooring types including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuum best vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum with mop we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud which could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and look better. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some extra cost this is a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the autonomous vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that vacuum and mop that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also grants access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robot cleaner vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
