The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

It also did a great job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum cleaner that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum that mops we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.
