Size
The Joovy Kooper X2 Double buggy with carrycot stroller is a side-by-side double stroller. It can accommodate two children weighing up to 50lbs. Its seats are more generously large than other strollers double strollers with lightweight designs and the canopy has spacious SPF 50 sunshades, with windows that peek out. Other key features include one-parent cup holders and an enormous, self-standing basket that can hold up 25 pounds; swing-away bars for children to climb in and out of their seats; and the front wheels that swivel lock for better manoeuvrability on tough terrain. This is a great option for suburban and urban families. It is also baby-friendly with a double set that includes an infant wedgie that can be used to lie flat in a position.
Weight
The weight of a double buggy is one of the key factors that will determine its ease to push. A light buggy is easier to lift and carry, but might not have enough suspension to withstand bumps and uneven terrain.
Most double buggies have an upper limit on the weight of each seat and some have total frame maximums and it's important to verify the specifications of each model prior to you buy. Some models fold down with seats removed to make them smaller and lighter this can be beneficial when storage space is at the limit.
Tri-fold doubles are usually the lightest of models, since they only require one hand to lift the top and lower sections. They're also narrower than side-by-side buggies, which makes them a good choice for fitting through doors. The iCandy Geo 3 tri-fold double is among the lightest on the market. It can comfortably accommodate twins or a toddler and baby.
Tandem buggies start out as one pushchair, but they come with adapters that allow you to add a carrycot, a second seat or car seat which makes them the ideal choice for expanding families. Some models, such as the iCandy Orange, offer over 30 seating options, so they can adapt to your family to accommodate three children. They are heavier than tri-folds however, since the weight is evenly dispersed, they are more comfortable to maneuver.
Folding
The most compact double infant stroller buggies fold up easily, in a matter of minutes. Our Lab experts love this feature since it helps them fit the buggies into the back of their vehicles and save storage space when not in use. The Joovy Kooper X2 for example comes with straps that can be pulled up over each seat and then the whole thing folds down. Even our oldest testers were able to do this tri-fold with just one hand.
The light Delta Children LX Side by Side is another good choice for a small double buggie. Its light weight is a plus, but it also has some great features including large pop-out canopy with SPF 50 and peekaboo windows swing-away bars that help youngsters climb in and out of the seats; and reclining seats and leg rests for younger kids.
Manoeuvrability
When selecting a compact double stroller, it is important to think about its maneuverability. This includes the ease for both children to travel in the buggy. Some pushchairs are more efficient than others such as the iCandy Orange's "cinema seat" (where the back is elevated).
The narrow tandem buggies are effective in this regard as can side-byside designs. However, these can be slightly longer overall and so may be tricky to navigate through doorways.
The UPPAbaby Vista 2 pushchair is an excellent example, considering that it's a comparatively compact model that can accommodate two additional seats, and - most importantly - the pillion board, which can be used to accommodate a third child.
Other smaller, three wheeled models, such as the phil&teds Dot, are also incredibly flexible. This is particularly true with its clever "dot kit" that transforms it into an inline buggie. It has two different seating arrangements for children of various age groups and the front seat can be turned so that it faces the parents to create more intimate bonding. It comes with an ample storage basket and is easy to fold. A great choice for families that are growing!
Comfort
Parents can keep both children within sight at the park, grocery store or wherever else using narrow tandem buggies or side by side double stroller-by-side buggies. These lightweight doubles can hold two children, with a maximum weight of 50 pounds each. They also come with pop-out canopy that can be extended far enough to offer real shade. They also come with cup holders for the seatback that are reversible, as well as a single parent cup holder and a large underseat basket.
Add the phil&teds Double Kit to your dot buggy if you are beginning with an expanding family. It transforms it into a double single pushchair inline stroller, which is perfect for both newborns and toddlers. The clever 3-wheel design makes for easy kerb popping and superior maneuverability, and the sling seat provides a great option for newborns to connect with their parents. You can easily swap out the sling seat with an infant car adapter as your children get older. With a deluxe rain cover and travel bag included, you're ready for your next adventure!
