Noah Pinsonnault is a product review analyst for the Home Care and Cleaning Lab at Good Housekeeping.
He reviews and tests cleaning equipment, focusing on mopping and robot vacuum cleaners best vacuum combos. Multitaskers are a great option for those looking to take mopping off their to-do list. Some of them have excellent mapping and obstacles avoidance. Some even wash and refill mopping pads themselves for a hands-free cleaning.
The Eufy S1 Pro
If you're looking to buy a robot vacuum that also mops then this is the model you should go for. It's smaller than other models on this list, making it easier to navigate in tight corners and under furniture. It has a 220 degree Lidar which, when combined with the 3D Matrix Camera System, offers one of my top navigation and object avoidance capabilities I've seen in robot vacuums. It's powered by a 4600mAh battery which can last up to 170 mins when mopping and sucking are set to standard mode. (It can run longer when it is set to turbo). It can even return to the dock to top up its battery halfway through cleaning.
It's efficient and does an outstanding job of cleaning my two-bedroom apartment. It can vacuum carpeted rooms fast and hardwood floors in the living room, kitchen and hallways in just one sweep. The motor's 8,000pa power allows it to pick up dirt, pet hair, and poop with ease. Carpet detection automatically boosts power when it encounters rugs and the two side brushes help pull out debris from corners.
The mopping efficiency is less impressive, but not by a lot. The mop's rotating motor spins at a high speed and is pushed down with 2.2lbs of force, easily scraping away dirt and stains. I've noticed that the front arms stick out slightly more than other robots, which can be helpful to maneuver around tight corners and along baseboards. The same front arms can also be used to sweep up larger debris, like broken toys and fallen books.
Another good thing is that the S1 Pro is one of the quietest Robot vacuums that mop vacuums and mops I've tried. It is quieter and doesn't create as much noise when mopping or vacuuming. The S1 Pro is only limited by the fact that it needs to use a mopping solution that is proprietary and is sold separately. It's simple to set up and is effective however this is something you'll need to keep an eye on in case you're purchasing this vacuum solely for the reason of mopping.
The Roborock Q Revo
The Q Revo stands apart from most robot vacuums that mops in its class. It is a powerful machine for cleaning with a range of features.
The device comes with an efficient cleaning system that integrates LiDAR sensor technology with an RGB camera. This allows it to map out the home and detect furniture and other obstacles. It can then use this information to clean effectively and intelligently. This ensures a thorough and consistent clean and is also rapid.
In terms of mopping, Q Revo's DuoRoller mop pads can reach many different surface areas. This includes baseboards, corners and other difficult to reach places. They also come with a stretchy side brush that can be extended to the floor in close proximity to walls and other fixtures. The mop pads are also washable and can be dried to eliminate odors and stop buildup.
Another noteworthy feature is the customization options that are available through apps. The Q Revo lets you adjust the suction intensity and choose either a back-and-forth or a random pattern. You can also adjust the number of passes it should make, which will determine the speed at which the device can move through your home. You can also choose to disable the side brush to prevent damaging rugs and carpets.
This device has a fairly expensive price, but comes with a large selection of advanced features. It's important to remember that it carries regular expenses in the form of mopping supplies and maintenance. For instance, a brushroll needs to be replaced every six to 12 months or after 300 hours. The filter should be cleaned after 150 hours and the mop pad must be replaced every one to three months.
The robot vacuum that mops has a high rating on Amazon and includes a broad array of physical automation features. The robot vacuum also has an power button that doubles as the 'Clean button' and a 'Home' button to send it home after cleaning. It also comes with a multi-functional dock that automatically emptys the trash bin and refills its water tank for mopping and washes and dries its mop pads.
The Shark Matrix Plus
If you're a busy professional or someone who wants an organized home that doesn't require a lot of time on chores then the Shark Matrix Plus is a good choice. It is a powerful machine with intelligent navigation, and long battery life that allows you to keep your home tidy with minimal effort.
The Matrix Plus is a 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop which means it is able to handle both vacuuming and mopping. The robot is divided into two modules, a dry bin and water tank that can be snapped in and out and a mopping unit that includes an elastomer pad. It's a bit old-fashioned to have separate modules for mopping and vacuuming however it does mean that you don't have to worry about changing the bags for disposables or refilling the tank with water.
Our test participants found that the Matrix Plus did a great job of vacuuming as well as mopping. Its most impressive feature was its precise map of your floorplan which it uses to create a route when cleaning. The Matrix Plus was able to navigate through rugs, furniture and other obstacles. The app lets you create 'No-Go Zones' as well as virtual barriers that prevent certain areas from being cleaned by a mop.
We also found that the Matrix Plus did surprisingly well in removing hair from pets. It was able to collect some of the hair that sheds from our cats. It even got into some of the corners and crevices of our stairs, where other robots struggled. It was fairly silent and also had a few pleasant jingles that let you know when it was beginning or finishing its work.
The app was too basic and you had to change the modules every time you switched between vacuuming and mops. The app can't store multiple maps. This could be an issue if your house has several floors. The Matrix Plus robot mop is a ideal choice for people who want a smart device that can mop and vacuum.
The Yiko X1 Omni
The X1 Omni robot vacuum is the most expensive in our review. However, it does have some unique features which make it worth looking into. The X1 Omni is most notable for its enormous dock that serves as an charging base for the robot, a cleaning sink and two 4-liter water tanks. It also houses two bins: a 2.5-liter dustbin and the 2.5 dust bin that is 2.5 liters.
The base comes with several control buttons that allow you to manually begin a cleaning task and then recall the robot or run the dock’s auto vacuum and mop-emptying procedure. Hold down two of the buttons to turn off the child lock, which is a nice feature for parents who are worried about kids tinkering with the vacuum.
Similar to other robotic vacuums, the Omni Omni utilizes its camera to spot furniture and obstacles in its path and avoid them. Its True Mapping 2.0 navigation system will map your home 10 times faster than standard laser detection systems and is four times more accurate in recognizing objects.
The X1 can be prone to get stuck if it is entangled in an obstacle, such as the power cable that is draped over a rug. It won't work until you manually untangle it. This was a rare incident, but frustrating nonetheless, because the X1 doesn't have a "stuck status" alert in its app.
Another issue that could be a problem is one of the biggest drawbacks is X1 Omni's inability to automatically change between vacuuming and mopping modes during cleaning. You'll have to manually swap between the two, which isn't too bad aside from the fact that mopping pads haven't been cleaned and dried between uses which could lead to mildew or mold.
On the positive side, the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot hoover and mop, thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who dreamed up its sleek, modern-looking base and mopping pad. It's a big difference from the utilitarian black bases of competitors like Roborock or iRobot. It's also an excellent choice for a market dominated by clunky boxy units.
