Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the best ways to upgrade your gear without relying upon big-ticket drops or trade. This article will teach you how to upp your items effectively.

Upgrades to equipment give an additional bonus to the item upgrade's stats. The amount of bonus varies based on the rarity and level of the upgrade component.

Components

Upgrade components make your armour and weapons better. They can be obtained by the destruction of enemies, finding them in item spheres or buying them from karma dealers. They can also be salvaged from equipment that contains them, or through the highest-quality salvage kits like the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components aren't destroyed by removing them from an item.

The main purpose of upgrade components is to allow an item to be upgraded, however, they also serve other functions. They can be stacked in order to boost the level or the amount of experience gained by upgrading weapons or gear. They can be forged to give additional bonuses. A glyph that has been crafted can increase the upgrade chances of its target, and a boost upgrade increases the defense or attack capabilities of a weapon.

By selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will let you bind it to an item. This will display the upgrade components that the item can be updated. Alternately, you can use the workbench to select an upgrade template. In either scenario, the item will be upgraded once enough upgrade components have been collected.

Each component is assigned an experience multiplier. This determines how much experience an item will gain when upgraded using the component. For instance, organic components give more experience multipliers than mechanical ones. It is therefore recommended to upgrade using organic components until you reach the experience multiplier for the next level of the equipment or weapon, and then move to mechanical upgrades.

Each item has an upgrade limit number that is available for. The number of items that can be upgraded is determined by their upgradeable rank, and the type of upgrade they can get. The most powerful upgrade is a weapon with the tier 10. However, the most common weapon upgrades are a tier 6 weapon and a tier 5 armor upgrade.

Sets

A set is a set of items that share the same bonus. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least once, and the upgrade increases the amount of bonuses that are guaranteed. The first time you upgrade an item, its initial stat will be +1. In subsequent upgrades, the primary stats will be increased a bit further (for example, +1 to 12+/13+/14+) Each time you upgrade the item with an additional stats is boosted randomly.

The upgrade of a weapon can increase the damage base, which could be necessary for certain builds. However, weapons can't be upgraded to have a greater defense level than their regular base. It is possible to increase value of certain sets and unique items by upgrading them, but they're not always superior to a high-level Runeword.

If you are upgrading an item with an added bonus, the item can be rerolled a single time and the guarantee will reset to zero. The same amount of power dies are used to reroll an item upgrader mod, just as it would be to increase its level. However the new item comes with different bonuses. Upgrades can be made through the NPC [Armor] Boboko in the Central Flarine. To upgrade an item you will need the appropriate amount Minerals and Erons, as well as a power dice of each type. These can be purchased with Gold at the crafting table or in the Ultra Collection. The NPCs will also offer special rewards for each completed stage of the upgrade process. This reward can be rerolled once, and the reroll will be made using the same materials used in the original item.

Rerolling

A player is able to play rerolling any item that they acquire during the game, provided they have enough reroll tokens to be able to do so. When an item is rerolled it will be replaced with an equivalent level 1 version from another set. Reroll tokens can be purchased at the store for a small amount of in-game currency. They are non-refundable. The new item upgraded will have the same bonuses of the original one however, its stats will be different too.

Players can alter the identification of their equipment as well as rerolling it by interacting with an NPC upgrader. This will change the identity from an armor to a weapon or vice versa, while maintaining its base stats and attributes that are required. The change is permanent and will affect all characters that are wearing the gear.

Players can also increase the level of their item on any equipped equipment by acquiring upgrade components and interacting with the item's upgrader NPC. It will cost a specific number of crests and Valorstones dependent on the upgrade track and item type. Each step will give an additional 5% of damage to weapons.

Upgrades can boost the power of an item, but they also decrease its quality. It is therefore important to find a balance between the two. Certain items might not be worth upgrading and some will require to be upgraded to realize their potential. For example an individual player may decide to upgrade a piece of breakpoint armor with an interesting modifier (% chance to block or FHR) to discover what it could be.

Rerolling is a standard practice in Genshin Impact and other gacha-based games. It is a method used by players in order to get the character or weapon they would not otherwise be able to acquire. These items can be costly and time-consuming to acquire, and the RNG does not always work in a positive way. The only choices left are to invest real money or grind for a long time. This is why rerolling is a popular option in Genshin Impact.

Leveling

When upgrading an item you can increase the level of the weapon or armor. This feature is not available in the current version of the game. I think it was meant to to add value to rare items, but as the majority of gear drops quickly and is only upgraded once you've reached a certain level, you'll usually replace the item before it becomes old enough. It's also not worth it to upgrade items with gem sockets as the power of the gem will outweigh the increased ilvl that comes with the upgrade.

You will be presented with a small box when you click on the upgrade option on an item. It will display the template of the item, the crest, and the cost for Valorstone to raise the item's level. Weapons and armor will have different prices, with the latter generally being more expensive. The upgrade template outlines the stats that will be added to an upgraded item, along with its current ilvl.

The cost of the Valorstone and the crest is calculated based on the current Ilvl of the item and the upgrade templates. The ilvl will also be reduced by the upgrade template's reduction percentage for lvl. For example weapons with an 8% upgrade decrease will decrease its value by 8-8%.

In addition to the base ilvl increase, the item will also get upgrades in other stats like critical strike damage, PvE damage, dodge, block and parry rating. These upgrades are also based on the upgrade template.

The amount of defense and damage the item is able to receive when leveled up can be seen below the cost and upgrade decrease percentages in the upgrade template window. In addition to practice equipment, all other armor and weapons gain the same stats once upgraded. The value of these additional stats will be dictated by the market, with a perfectly rolled weapon or piece of armor can command significantly more trade value than non-upp'd versions. The same applies to other armor pieces such as circlets or tiaras.
