1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've examined. They feature motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live some more volume and some additional cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should delight most.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the degree of dirt they are.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Also the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
