1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also has strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot automatic vacuum cleaner/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum cleaners reviews vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and some extra cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to inform the robot vacuum cleaner best of which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum cleaner reviews vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we have tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
