WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a an increase in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current Best item upgrader level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They are purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. button, which displays an item's preview at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item level upgrade and the current level of the item. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a certain item level Upgrade level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less even when they belong to a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific Best item upgrade level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be spent on gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrade gear you have available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
