Side-by-Side
The majority of light double pushchairs we've tested are side-by-side designs and they're generally best for children that can stand up without assistance, as these models aren't equipped with car seat integration. That said there are some exceptions. Thule Urban Glide 2 double stroller for twins and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both top choices that have adjustable recline in both seats, a large canopy and padded 5-point harnesses. They are also easy to maneuver despite their bigger footprint. They are perfect for parents who are worried about fitting through doors.

Try the egg2, which can be folded down to the size and weight of a compact suitcase. It can be used as a single or double by adding 2 carrycots or baby car seats. Our home testers were impressed with the ease of move, even with a full load of kids.
Double pushchairs with side-by-side seating aren't 100% foolproof, howeverIf your children are at the same age or stage they might still argue over who is allowed to ride in which seat. And if they're at different heights, a tandem style might be better for them, as it will allow them to confront each other.
Tandem
While side-by-side models may be more appropriate for siblings who are the same age tandem pushchairs are light and lightweight, and offer their own perks. They can accommodate a larger car seat, and some come with convertible seats or an additional carrycot in the middle. They tend to be more spacious and simple to get in and out of, although their baskets are typically smaller than the ones on single buggies. Many also feature more generously large canopies that have peekaboo windows and a parent cup holder and padded leg cushions for little ones.
The iCandy Peach tandem is another good example of a lightweight tandem that offers an excellent value. The fabrics are a little less expensive than some of our top-rated doubles. However, it looks great and is easy to use. Its one-handed folding is impressive. Even though it requires some time to master, Kirstie from our Lab called it "genius". It can't be folded with the carrycot attached but the mechanism for attaching and removing it is simple and fast.
Tandem strollers are light and lightweight. They generally have a more precise turning compared to side-byside models. However, they could be harder to drive on uneven surfaces or curbs. They can also be slower to accelerate and are heavier to move. This can put stress on your back.
Another alternative is a convertible double buggy, that starts out as an individual and then you can add adapters that turn it into a double. This kind of buggy has the main disadvantage of being a bit wider than the side-by-side doubles. This makes it difficult to maneuver through doorways, and it isn't easy to maneuver between kerbs. However the suspension and wheels on these models generally are capable of handling paved surfaces, and the fact that they're usually much lighter than some of the side-bysides means that you still find plenty of storage space. It's important to remember that strollers of this type aren't as efficient in navigating narrow aisles in supermarkets, and may struggle to handle a large amount of shopping. It's a bit easier to turn around on the smallest curves of paths but even this can be difficult. Some are also easier to turn than others, such as the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double, for example.
Convertible
Convertible double pushchairs are ideal because they are able to be adapted to the changing needs of families. Often, they start as single buggies. They include adapters that permit you to add a second child's chair or a carrycot (in certain instances) the car seat to the frame. Some are able to be converted to a single when your older child starts to walk or prefers to ride a buggyboard.
