The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to provide better cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. The flex arm is perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot hoover and mop vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum that mops that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. And you can set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
