Three Wheeled Buggies

Whether you're seeking a buggy to jog with or just a stroller that can be used for the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight areas.

If you are looking for a smooth ride on your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels that swivel. However, they are more prone to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with an repair kit.

Sturdy frame

Figures have just been released revealing that the three-wheeled buggie - that noughties symbol of more money than sense is in a decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers which can be more versatile in terrain, yet still look swanky and being easy to push.

The bigger the wheels are the better your buggy will cope with bumpy and uneven pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front, make it easier to maneuver and more stable while walking downhill or on difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and a 3 wheeler strollers year old and found that it was able to handle grass, cobbles, rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt solid to push and very stable on difficult terrain. Its tyres, which are inflatable and require to be pumped regularly, have built-in suspension. It was extremely comfortable for my children.

The size and shape of the seat is another thing to consider. It should be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort and you will also want it to be able to recline so that they can lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies offer a lie-flat option that allows your child to lie flat and face you, while others only allow a parent-facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great alternative for off-road or wet walks. The buggy can be used as a single unit from birth, and then expands to take two children when your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers up to age four and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat. The storage options are great as well, with a large basket, zip pockets inside the hood, and an easy-to-access pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Wheels with a greater diameter

Larger wheels mean your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - perfect for buggies designed for off-road use. They also help you navigate the double pushchair 3 wheeler through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have the front wheels that swivel to help you navigate around tight corners, whereas others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with which they can be driven. This is particularly useful when you bump against the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will lift slightly to keep it from hitting it.

A lot of 3 wheel all terrain buggy, Read A great deal more, wheel pushchairs have air-filled tyres, which means they can be used on a variety of terrains and are more flexible than four wheelers. They're also lighter. They are prone to punctures, so you'll require a repair kit and spare inner tubes on hand.

Our top three-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, as per MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that she claims "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles" and are able to move up and down kerbs. They also have a suspension system which in her words "smoothes out bumps with great efficiency".

Buggies with larger wheels can be quite wide and can be difficult to fit in tight spaces. This can be a problem if you use it for jogging or have to squeeze through narrow doorways while traveling. Fortunately, the majority of models come with small folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels for more compact storage.

Easy to maneuver

One of the main benefits to a three wheel buggy is that it's much easier to maneuver, especially with a child in tow. The way they are constructed means that the front wheels spin on a dime and are extremely maneuverable which makes them perfect for tricky terrain like cobbles, parks, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the 3 wheeler pushchairs from birth-wheeler with her toddler. she wrote: "The Terrain is a pleasure to drive in rough terrain. The front swivel wheel was especially useful." I was also awed by how well it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was very stable for descending or on a rough terrain."

The only downside of this great maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's bigger wheels sometimes mean it has to struggle in tight spaces, something to keep in mind if you live in a urban area. If this is a problem then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better option for you.
