They also come with a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot cleaner with mop's power when it spots an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with a wet one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the rivals. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has 100% in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing some more volume and a little more cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum that mops robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and cleans and dries mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For larger houses it's worth looking for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes.
