UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors are worn out over time and need to be replaced. It is crucial to be able to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing a window handle them.

The three measurements to check are the top screw's location, lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to help with this.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever/lever handle is a modern-day door handle designed to suit new or replacement doors. This style of handle is available in a variety of designs and finishes. A number of manufacturers make this handle including Avocet, ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The door handles made of uPVC/Composite are made of robust materials and are ideal for multi-point lock doors which require a robust design. The handles are inline and they use the same spindle and screws to secure them. They can be easily mounted on any uPVC/Composite door.

The design of the sprung lever allows the handle to be set and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been endurance-tested to 200 000 cycles. This ensures that the finish is of high quality and performance over time. The lever that is sprung can be cut to fit the widest range of locks. This is particularly useful in doors that are narrower, where the cylinder is further away from the door. A shortened lever can also be used for doors with a latch which can be operated with the thumb on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc functions differently than lever handles on doors. These Window handle upvc types are either operated by one spindle or two spindles inline or offset. They are usually utilized on UPVC doors with double glazing handle glazing and come in a variety of finishes and variations.

The handles are available in a variety of finishes including White, Chrome, and Gold. The finish is compliant with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, thereby giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.

All UPVC levers for handles include a spindle and screws and can be installed on the uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixing centres allow for a wider size handle that can be beneficial when replacing a damaged or worn multi point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are spring-loaded, thereby solving the issue of door handles sagging out of the horizontal position when they are not in use.

It is essential to match the dimensions of the PZ for both the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC doors when selecting the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is often called the handle centre or 'cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect of matching up the appropriate handles.

Once you have the correct PZ size you will then be required to make sure that the lever pads and push pads are in a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you require for your doors. These are usually square or round with an internal lever, and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC lever pads that we sell are sprung, meaning that they will return to their horizontal position when they are not in use, instead of hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This prevents draughts from entering the building. You will also find that the majority of UPVC lever pad handles are swivel which allows you to place them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are commonly used on uPVC doors, but can be utilized on other types of doors. The cylinder lock operates with a key that unlocks the cylinder's casing. This exposes pins that can be aligned to those inside the lock and allow them to turn the revolving camera, opening the door handle replacements. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins with both internal and external doors usually needing different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder is vital. It depends on the type of use your doors and handles will receive. For example, external doors should be fitted with a higher security cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured with the standard cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders come with additional features which can enhance security, for instance anti-drill or anti-bump features.

To make sure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it should be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the other end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. If you are unable to measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can remove it. It is crucial to not have a cylindrical lock that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.

The majority of modern cylinders have been made with anti-drill and bump resistance features that are built into their design. These are designed to reduce attack chances by forcing the cylinders to turn in a different direction. This can help stop the attack and keep your doors safe.

There are cylinders that are constructed to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A special tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is a quicker and more convenient method of gaining access than using the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves no evidence of the break-in which could delay insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is found within the base plate of the door handle. It offers a spring-loaded solution to return the multipoint lock handles to their normal position after use. In the past, a lot of handles of this kind did not have a spring integrated into them, and without it they tend to droop or 'drop' once the locking mechanism is removed. This simple part is the best solution to address this issue. It also prevents your door from becoming stuck in the closed or open position since they aren't easy to close manually.

The spring cassettes were made to be used with a spring multipoint locks. They are not compatible with handles that are not sprung and you'll need to cut a hole in your backplate for them to fit. (Please see the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a solution to broken or missing cassettes on the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are supplied in a single unit. They have a square-cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes provide a great value solution to the problem of bifold door handles handles that are sagging. These spring cassettes are simple to install and can extend the lifespan of your uPVC door. Contact us for more information on our range of uPVC accessories and spares.
