What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib (also called bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small infant crib that is attached to your adult bed, allowing your baby to sleep in a safe environment with you. This is a safe form of co-sleeping that doesn't increase your risk of SIDS like bedsharing. It can also help you bond with your newborn bedside cot baby.
They have one side that can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily in the nighttime to comfort them and feed them. This is particularly helpful for mothers who are recovering from a c-section. Many are portable or foldable bedside crib which means you can use them for travel and as a temporary solution for newborns that aren't yet ready to transition into a full-sized crib.
Find a crib that has an air-conditioned mattress, as well as an appropriate cover to protect your baby from stains. It is also advisable to pick up some baby-safe add-ons like a blanket, teether and cuddly toy.
If you are looking for a more long-term solution Some cribs have conversion kits that let you transform them into a toddler bed or cot for bedside at the time that is appropriate. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition a lot easier. Some come with a removable section at the top that can be transformed into the bassinet. Other models can be used in conjunction with an adult bed that is standard or a high-rise bed. This is a great option for families that plan on frequently traveling or switching rooms at night. You should also consider how big your bedroom is to ensure that you can squeeze the crib in comfortably. Many cribs come with a riser which can be used to create an inclined position for infants who suffer from reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
The Roomie Glide, a bedside crib made by the English brand Joie is a fantastic addition to their range of high-quality products for babies. The co-sleeper was created to help parents connect and sleep side-by-side with their children without sharing a single bed. It is full of features that make bonding between parent and baby safe, simple, and fun.
A gentle rocking motion can be initiated by pressing a button. This gentle rhythm can help to soothe your baby without disrupting their normal sleep patterns. This is perfect for older toddlers or babies who are having trouble settling down. It can also help with digestive problems like colic and reflux.
The crib can also be fixed to the side of the bed using an attachment strap and clip. This makes it extremely solid and secure, allowing you to get a good night's rest without worrying about your child sliding off into the middle of the room. The rounded shape of the cocoon is complemented by softly padded side panels and double mesh windows on both ends. This allows for airflow while ensuring your baby's safety.
The mattress included is soft and comfortable, and has an easy-to-clean cover. The lightweight aluminium frame makes the crib very lightweight and easy to set up. The four lockable wheels are rubber-covered to ensure that the crib won't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. The crib is easy to clean with the fabric that wipes clean and is easily put in a bag for overnight stays.

It also has an upper bar that can be easily adjusted for nighttime feeds without needing to fiddle with zips in the dark.
Anna found the CoZee to be a safe and comfortable place to sleep for her baby. It was a pleasure to not move like other models so she wasn't disturbed at night while trying to comfort her child to feed. She also appreciated that the sides of the chair was lowered so she didn't have to reach over her partner to carry the child out to feed her at night.
The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and was a stylish addition to the bedroom. It looks more like an elegant piece of furniture than some of the other cribs we've tested, which can appear quite utilitarian. It's also quite light at 11kg, and comes with a carry case so you can bring it on holiday or when moving house. You only need to purchase an extra waterproof sheet and safety strap for co-sleeping. There are helpful step-by-step instructions and photos to help you put it together when you first open the box which makes it a one-person job when needed.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet that can be placed at the bedside that helps parents feel closer to their infant as they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and moved to three different slide positions, to be placed beside the bed of the parent or in the corner so the baby is always at hand. The mesh siding lets air circulate through, allowing you to quickly see your baby. You can also store additional pajamas and other items in the large bedside crib storage basket under.
The Iora is a smaller bedside cot that can fold flat. It also comes with a travel bag to allow it to be carried anywhere. Our mom testers found it easy to move from room to room and felt that it was a suitable size for a small bedside baby bed cot that was not too big or too small. They also loved the large storage basket which is ideal for stowing spare bedding or nappies.
This is a great choice for parents who want to sleep together but don't want to share their bed. Also, if one of the partners has mobility issues, such as arthritis or back pain. Our mum testers were thrilled to be able to easily access their baby in the Iora and that it came with an option to have a reflux incline which helped reduce gas.
Our moms also love the fact that it complies with NICE guidelines which state that you should place the infant in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets pillows, etc.). They also state that the mattress is firm and comfortable for baby and is easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as some of the smaller cribs on our list, so if prefer something lighter and easier to move, you can choose another option.
